Proposal 2013

A 460m2 land with 320m2 built-up area for Authentic Malaysian Cuisine to accommodate 100 patrons.

The clients' vision is to introduce a ‘birdcage’ and ‘sampan – which is a traditional Malay boat’ in the design.

We interpret this vision by using elements commonly found at the Jetty such as manila rope and timber crates.

Curtains of manila rope are utilised to depict a birdcage, While wrecked Indonesian timber boats are given a new lease of life by being used as the construction material for the half boat in the restaurant.

The existing elements of the original shop lot have been preserved by the washed brick, polished concrete and rendered finished.
