Master planning for this major new residential community (180 hectares) adjacent to the historic Mernda township is being driven by an integrated response to the unique landscape and natural systems of the site.

 

The general district was a known painting ground for Heidelberg artists, including Street on. Its dramatic landscape includes undulating hills affording expansive views to the Great Dividing Range falling to the Plenty River valley system which is home to abundant stands of River Red Gums.

 

The design response includes a complex network of multiple use corridors incorporating a recreated system of creeks and wetlands along the major valleys, linking major stands of River Red Gums, an extensive network of existing and future community infrastructure before connecting thought to the Regional Parklands encompassing the Plenty River.

 

At its core will be an integrated mixed use village centre with a main street incorporation a primary school, community recreational and retail facilities.  The village will be adjacent to the valley wetland system and set against the backdrop of the main internal hilltop.  The community will also incorporate a range of residential housing types and built from character precincts reflecting the rural context and the internal landscape character.
